## The Liberator of Time

Few Cosmic Identity readings could be more consequential to the Decoding the Stars project than that of José Argüelles. Nearly every Dreamspell signature we interpret carries some trace of the language he helped bring into the world: the 20 Solar Seals, the 13 Galactic Tones, the 260 Kin, the wavespells, Earth Families, castles, galactic activation portals, planetary kin and the daily practice of asking:

> “What is the energy of this day?”

Argüelles was not simply a student of time. He attempted to change humanity’s experience of time.

Born January 24, 1939, he entered the world as Blue Spectral Monkey · Kin 11—an archetype of liberated magic, dissolved illusion, creative play and release from artificial structures. It is difficult to imagine a more fitting signature for the visionary who challenged the authority of the mechanical clock and proclaimed that humanity must move from “time is money” to “time is art.”

His life’s work can be understood as a vast expression of the affirmation encoded in his birth:

> I dissolve in order to play.
> Releasing illusion.
> I seal the process of magic
> with the Spectral tone of liberation.
> I am guided by my own power doubled.

This is not merely poetic language placed beside his biography. It reads almost like a concise description of his mission.

# Blue Monkey: The Magician Behind the Calendar

Blue Monkey is the eleventh Solar Seal. Its primary powers are:

* Magic
* Play
* Illusion

The Monkey does not necessarily destroy illusion by attacking it directly. It reveals illusion through a change in perception.

A rigid reality looks absolute until the Monkey turns it sideways.

A calendar appears to be an unquestionable fact until someone asks why humanity has agreed to divide time in this particular manner. A clock appears to be a neutral measuring instrument until someone points out how deeply industrial civilization has organized labor, money, education and human attention around it.

This was one of Argüelles’s essential gifts. He looked at arrangements most people considered inevitable and treated them as constructed systems that could be questioned, reimagined and transformed.

He asked humanity to consider that the calendar was not simply a device for recording dates. It was also a program of consciousness.

That is profoundly Blue Monkey.

The Monkey recognizes that the world people inhabit is partly created by the symbols, measures and agreements through which they interpret it. Change the code and perception begins to change. Change perception and an entirely different world may become imaginable.

The Dreamspell was therefore more than a calendar. It was a symbolic environment: a language of colors, numbers, seals, tones, kin, poems, journeys and synchronicities through which people could experience identity and time differently.

Argüelles did not merely explain an idea. He constructed an experiential game of consciousness.

Even the title Dreamspell: The Journey of Timeship Earth 2013 carries Monkey energy. The Earth becomes a timeship. History becomes a cosmic journey. Dates become galactic signatures. Human beings become planetary kin. Ordinary chronology is lifted into mythic participation.

This is the magician’s act—not making reality disappear, but showing that reality has always contained more possibilities than the prevailing interpretation allowed us to see.

# Spectral Tone 11: Liberation Through Dissolution

If Blue Monkey supplies the magic, imagination and capacity to expose illusion, the Spectral Tone reveals the purpose of that power.

Tone 11 carries the qualities of:

* Liberation
* Release
* Dissolution

The Spectral person often arrives to loosen structures that have become too rigid. They may expose the limitations of a system, release energy trapped inside it or dissolve an agreement that others no longer realize they are obeying.

Argüelles directed this force toward one of the most deeply embedded structures in civilization: its organization of time.

His critique of modern time was not limited to the inconvenience of an irregular calendar. He believed that the dominant timing frequency had conditioned humanity to experience life mechanically. The combination of the 12-month calendar, the 60-minute hour and an economic culture governed by productivity represented what he called the 12:60 frequency.

In the framework of the Law of Time:

* 12:60 represents mechanized, artificial time.
* 13:20 represents natural, harmonic or galactic time.

The 13:20 ratio refers to the 13 tones and 20 seals of the 260-unit sacred harmonic matrix. Argüelles regarded this matrix as a mathematical expression of synchronization rather than merely a sequence of dates.

The Foundation for the Law of Time summarizes the distinction through two memorable formulations:

* 12:60 — Time is money
* 13:20 — Time is art

The foundation describes 12:60 as life ruled by the clock, money and the repetitive demands of the “daily grind,” while 13:20 places consciousness, nature, creativity and synchronicity at the center of experience. These are Argüelles’s spiritual and philosophical propositions, rather than conclusions accepted by conventional science, but they became the organizing basis of an international movement. Foundation for the Law of Time

In archetypal terms, this is the Spectral Monkey confronting a collective illusion.

The illusion is not that clocks or money physically exist. It is that the mechanical measurement of time represents the whole reality of time—and that human life must therefore be subordinated to schedules, wages, deadlines and production.

Argüelles attempted to dissolve that spell by offering another one.

This is an important Monkey paradox: one spell is often broken through the conscious creation of a new symbolic framework. Dreamspell uses art, number, ritual and imagination to release consciousness from what Argüelles believed was a far more limiting enchantment.

# “Time Is Art”: The Yellow Star Analog

Argüelles’s analog support is Yellow Spectral Star, the archetype of art, beauty and elegance expressed through the same liberating Spectral Tone.

This may be one of the clearest correspondences in his entire oracle.

Argüelles did not begin his career as a conventional calendar reformer. He was an artist and scholar of art. He earned a doctorate in art history and aesthetics from the University of Chicago and taught at institutions including Princeton, the University of California at Davis, the San Francisco Art Institute and Evergreen State College.

His early work included painting, mandala, visual symbolism and what he described as a psychophysical approach to aesthetics. He also helped establish the Whole Earth Festival at UC Davis—an event emerging from the creative premise that students should make something in which they genuinely believed.

His later proclamation that time is art was therefore not a decorative slogan added to a calendar system. It was the maturation of his entire worldview.

The Yellow Star supports Blue Monkey by giving magic an aesthetic form. The Star takes visionary perception and seeks to arrange it into harmony, proportion and beauty.

This can be seen throughout Argüelles’s work:

* the symmetrical structure of the 13 Moon calendar;
* the four colors of the galactic sequence;
* the visual order of the Tzolkin;
* the intricate diagrams of *Earth Ascending*;
* the seals and tones of Dreamspell;
* the Banner of Peace;
* the imagery of Timeship Earth;
* the Circumpolar Rainbow Bridge;
* and the elaborate cosmology of the *Cosmic History Chronicles*.

His work was never purely theoretical. It was designed to be seen, contemplated, enacted and lived.

For Argüelles, art was not a specialized activity reserved for artists. It was the natural result of energy moving harmoniously through time. His Law of Time formula expressed this as:

$$
T(E)=Art
$$

Energy factored by time equals art.

Whether one approaches that statement metaphysically, philosophically or poetically, it captures the union of his Blue Monkey and Yellow Star powers. Time becomes a creative medium. Life becomes an artwork. Humanity becomes capable of composing its participation in the cosmos.

# Self-Guided Monkey: The Power Doubled

Because of the Spectral Tone, Argüelles is guided by his own solar seal. His guide is another Blue Monkey—his own power doubled.

Self-guided kin frequently carry an unusually concentrated expression of their archetype. Their lives may feel inwardly directed, as if the central instruction does not arrive through an external authority but through persistent internal knowing.

Argüelles often moved in precisely this fashion.

His work combined art history, Maya calendrical studies, the I Ching, numerology, Buddhism, whole-systems theory, the noosphere, prophecy, telepathy and visionary experience. It did not fit comfortably within a single academic discipline, religious lineage or scientific institution.

He created his own synthesis.

That independence gave him the freedom to formulate a remarkably original cosmology. It also meant that his claims frequently existed outside academic consensus and attracted substantial criticism.

The self-guided Monkey can be brilliant, inventive and fearless. But the same power can become difficult for others to evaluate because its internal system of meaning may grow increasingly elaborate. The visionary recognizes patterns that conventional observers cannot see; the challenge is distinguishing a truly illuminating pattern from a pattern produced by the visionary’s own symbolic universe.

This tension does not invalidate his work. It belongs to the full reading of it.

Argüelles’s gift was his refusal to accept the limits placed around time, consciousness and human possibility. His challenge was that the cosmology he constructed could become so internally complete that symbolic resonance might be presented as universal law.

The Blue Monkey teaches through both magic and illusion. Its wisdom lies not in rejecting imagination, but in learning how consciously imagination is being used.

# The Red Dragon Challenge: Giving Birth to a New World

Argüelles’s antipode is Red Spectral Dragon, Kin 141.

The Dragon represents:

* Birth
* Nurturing
* Being
* Primordial trust

As his challenge power, the Dragon asks whether the Monkey’s vision can be born into material life and sustained there.

Argüelles did not merely want people to appreciate a beautiful cosmology. He wanted humanity to reorganize civilization around it. His calendar-change movement proposed that adopting a 13 Moon/28-day calendar could help restore human consciousness to natural order and support planetary peace.

José and Lloydine Argüelles initiated the Thirteen Moon Calendar Change Peace Plan in 1994. It connected calendar reform with biospheric regeneration, peace through culture and the Banner of Peace. Foundation for the Law of Time

Here we see the Monkey attempting to become Dragon: an imaginative code seeking embodiment as a new planetary culture.

Yet this also reveals the central difficulty of his mission. It is one thing to release people psychologically from an old system. It is another to give birth to a viable global alternative.

A calendar is entangled with agriculture, religion, finance, computing, law, government, education and historical memory. The Gregorian calendar may be irregular, but it is embedded within nearly every logistical system on Earth. Replacing it requires more than revelation; it requires sustained institutional cooperation.

The Red Dragon challenge asks:

* Can the vision be nurtured after the initial awakening?
* Can a revelation become a living community?
* Can a new culture provide stability as well as liberation?
* Can spiritual time coexist with the practical requirements of embodied life?

Argüelles inspired a worldwide network, but the complete transformation of civilization he envisioned did not occur during his lifetime. That does not make his work meaningless. It shows the magnitude of the Dragon challenge he accepted.

He was attempting to give birth to another experience of time.

# The Hidden White Electric Dog: Service Through Love

Argüelles’s occult power is White Electric Dog · Kin 250.

White Dog represents:

* Love
* Loyalty
* Heart
* Emotional truth

The Electric Tone activates service, bonding and the movement of energy through relationship.

Behind Argüelles’s vast intellectual and cosmic architecture was a deeply relational impulse. He wanted humanity to become synchronized—not merely mathematically, but spiritually and emotionally. His work repeatedly returned to planetary peace, universal cooperation, cultural renewal and humanity awakening as a single organism.

The hidden Dog also reminds us that his work was never created alone.

His wife Lloydine Argüelles, known within the movement as Bolon Ik, was a central collaborator in the development and global dissemination of Dreamspell, the Planet Art Network and the Law of Time. Later, Stephanie South, known as the Red Queen, became his apprentice, collaborator and coauthor of the seven-volume *Cosmic History Chronicles*.

Recognizing these relationships does not diminish José’s role. It completes it.

The public visionary may embody the message, but the Electric Dog reveals the network of loyalty, love and service through which the message becomes active.

Dreamspell itself creates relationship. It gives people kin names, oracle partners, Earth Families and wavespell companions. It transforms an individual birth date into a position within a living field of 260 archetypal identities.

The hidden power of his system is therefore not only mathematical. It is social.

It invites people to recognize one another as kin.

# Born in the Red Dragon Wavespell

José Argüelles was born on the eleventh day of the Red Dragon Wavespell, the first wavespell of the entire 260-Kin cycle.

The Red Dragon Wavespell carries the primordial power of birth. It begins the Tzolkin and establishes the first movement of the Red Eastern Castle of Turning.

To be born near the culmination of this first wavespell is highly significant. Argüelles’s Spectral role within it is to release the energies that prevent a new cycle from being born.

He was not born under a wavespell of preservation, refinement or consolidation. He was born inside the original act of emergence.

This gives his life’s work a distinctly initiatory character. Again and again he announced the ending of an old historical program and the beginning of another:

* the closing of a great cycle;
* the transition beyond the technosphere;
* the emergence of the noosphere;
* the restoration of natural time;
* the birth of planetary consciousness;
* the movement from history into post-history;
* and the transformation of Earth into a conscious work of art.

The Spectral phase is especially interesting here. Tone 11 does not initiate the wavespell—that belongs to the Magnetic Tone. Instead, it liberates what the preceding ten tones have developed so the cycle can move toward cooperation and transcendence.

Argüelles’s role was therefore not simply to build a permanent doctrine. It was to release a code into the collective field.

Once released, that code would inevitably travel beyond its creator, changing as communities interpreted, practiced, debated and expanded it.

That is exactly what happened.

---

# The Cardinal Earth Family: Establishing the Directions

Blue Monkey belongs to the Cardinal Earth Family, alongside Red Dragon, White Worldbridger and Yellow Warrior.

The Cardinal Family establishes the four primary directions. It carries a quality of orientation: locating consciousness within a larger planetary field.

This is another striking correspondence with Argüelles’s life. His work constantly sought to reorient humanity:

* from mechanical time to natural time;
* from individual consciousness to planetary consciousness;
* from nationalism to planetary kinship;
* from history to cosmic history;
* from passive chronology to active synchronization;
* from consumption to creativity;
* from “time is money” to “time is art.”

A cardinal figure does not merely offer additional information. He changes the coordinates through which information is understood.

Argüelles wanted humanity to recognize that it was traveling aboard a planetary vessel—Timeship Earth—and that every person occupied a meaningful position in its unfolding journey.

His vision was directional in the deepest sense. It asked: Where are we in time? Where is human evolution going? What pattern are we participating in? What kind of civilization are we creating through the way we measure our days?

---

# Venus: Beauty as a Planetary Path

Blue Monkey is associated in the Dreamspell planetary holon with Venus, sharing this planetary circuit with Yellow Star.

This Monkey–Star–Venus connection magnifies the artistic dimension of Argüelles’s identity.

Venus is traditionally associated with beauty, harmony, attraction, values and relationship. Argüelles attempted to make cosmology beautiful. His diagrams, mandalas and symbolic systems were meant to attract consciousness into a new order through aesthetic participation.

His work suggests that a planetary transformation cannot be achieved through fear and argument alone. Humanity must become attracted to another vision of itself.

“Time is art” is powerful partly because it is beautiful. It does not merely condemn mechanical civilization. It opens a door into a more enchanting possibility.

The phrase converts time from a prison into a canvas.

That is the Venusian magic of the Blue Monkey supported by Yellow Star.

---

# Aquarius, Earth Tiger and Life Path 11

The other systems in Argüelles’s Cosmic Identity Map reinforce the Dreamspell reading.

## Aquarius Sun

Aquarius is associated with innovation, social reform, unconventional thinking, collective evolution and the willingness to stand outside established structures.

Argüelles’s work was unmistakably Aquarian. He was concerned with humanity as a planetary whole and with the emergence of a future consciousness. His noospheric vision imagined humanity moving toward a new stage of collective awareness—a kind of planetary mind.

Aquarius often sees a future that existing institutions are not yet prepared to inhabit. Its gift is foresight; its shadow can be abstraction or distance from ordinary practical realities.

This parallels the Blue Spectral Monkey’s ability to envision liberation while facing the Red Dragon challenge of embodiment.

## Earth Tiger

The Tiger carries courage, independence, charisma and the instinct to act according to its own convictions. The Earth element can give the Tiger’s boldness greater purpose and endurance.

Argüelles needed considerable courage to challenge the global calendar, industrial time and the intellectual assumptions of conventional civilization. Whether people regarded him as a visionary or an eccentric, he continued developing and presenting his cosmology.

The Tiger does not ask whether the path is already socially approved. It moves because something within it knows the existing territory is too small.

## Life Path 11

Life Path 11 is frequently associated with intuition, spiritual transmission, heightened sensitivity and the role of messenger or illuminator.

Argüelles was both Kin 11 and a Life Path 11.

This double eleven is remarkable. In Dreamspell, Tone 11 liberates. In numerology, 11 transmits inspiration across the threshold between visible and invisible realities.

His life united those functions: he attempted to receive a new understanding of time and release it into the collective mind.

The shadow of 11 can involve nervous intensity, polarization, grandiosity or difficulty translating revelation into forms others can assimilate. The gift is the ability to become a bridge for ideas that may belong more fully to the future than to the present.

---

# The Body of Work as a Galactic Journey

Argüelles’s work unfolded across several distinct but interconnected stages.

## Art, Mandala and Whole-Systems Vision

His early scholarship explored art, aesthetics and the relationship between perception and form. *Mandala* examined sacred patterns as maps of consciousness. *The Transformative Vision* explored art as an evolutionary force.

In *Earth Ascending*, he began presenting Earth as an integrated system governed by harmonic patterns. The book’s visual density reflects his characteristic method: ideas become diagrams, correspondences and multidimensional maps.

The artist was already becoming the cartographer of time.

## The Mayan Factor and the Harmonic Convergence

Published in 1987, *The Mayan Factor* introduced a wide audience to Argüelles’s interpretation of Maya calendrical cycles and his conception of a galactic synchronization process.

That same year, José and Lloydine Argüelles became principal organizers of the Harmonic Convergence, held August 16–17, 1987. It became one of the best-known globally synchronized meditation events of its era and helped focus international attention on Indigenous calendars, prophecy, planetary transformation and the approach of 2012. Foundation for the Law of Time

This event was Blue Monkey magic operating collectively. Thousands of people temporarily stepped outside ordinary social time and entered a shared symbolic moment.

Whether or not one accepted every prophecy associated with the event, it demonstrated the possibility of synchronizing consciousness across geographical boundaries.

## Dreamspell

José and Lloydine developed Dreamspell: The Journey of Timeship Earth 2013 around 1990–1991.

Dreamspell translated the 260 permutations of 13 tones and 20 seals into a modern initiatory and synchronistic system. It supplied the framework through which millions of people would come to know themselves as Red Dragons, White Winds, Blue Nights, Yellow Seeds and the other galactic signatures.

Dreamspell draws inspiration from Mesoamerican calendrical traditions, particularly the sacred 260-day count, but it should not be presented as identical to the traditional Maya calendars maintained by living Maya daykeepers.

It is a modern system created through Argüelles’s distinctive synthesis.

This distinction matters because honoring his originality and honoring traditional Maya knowledge are not opposing acts. Both become clearer when their identities are respected. Dreamspell belongs to the modern galactic culture Argüelles helped initiate; traditional Maya counts belong to their own living peoples, histories and lineages.

## The Law of Time

Argüelles’s calendar work developed into a broader metaphysical proposition: the Law of Time.

He proposed that time is the universal factor of synchronization and that the natural frequency of time could be expressed through the 13:20 ratio. Modern industrial civilization, by contrast, was conditioned by the artificial 12:60 frequency.

For Argüelles, calendar reform was therefore consciousness reform.

The Foundation for the Law of Time was established to preserve, develop and disseminate this work. Its historical account dates the discovery of the 12:60 and 13:20 timing frequencies to 1989 and describes the 13:20 matrix as the basis for a transition from artificial to natural time. Law of Time history

## Telektonon and the Seven Years of Prophecy

Through Telektonon and the Seven Years of Prophecy, Argüelles expanded Dreamspell into an increasingly complex spiritual practice involving the tomb of Pacal Votan, planetary redemption, daily codes and a prophetic transition leading toward the closing of the cycle.

Here the Blue Monkey’s symbolic imagination became especially elaborate. Time was no longer merely counted; it became a living theater of prophecy.

## The Noosphere

Later in life, Argüelles increasingly focused on the noosphere—the proposed next evolutionary stage of Earth in which humanity recognizes itself as a unified planetary consciousness.

Building on ideas associated with Vladimir Vernadsky and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Argüelles envisioned the technosphere as a temporary and unstable stage. Humanity’s technological shell would either overwhelm the biosphere or be transformed through the emergence of planetary mind.

His final major book, *Manifesto for the Noosphere*, presented this transition as both an evolutionary necessity and a creative possibility.

The vision of the Circumpolar Rainbow Bridge encircling Earth is perhaps his most complete synthesis of Monkey, Star and Venus: consciousness, imagination, planetary art and telepathic unity condensed into a single image.

## The Cosmic History Chronicles

With Stephanie South, Argüelles produced the seven-volume *Cosmic History Chronicles*:

1. *Book of the Throne*
2. *Book of the Avatar*
3. *Book of the Mystery*
4. *Book of the Initiation*
5. *Book of the Timespace*
6. *Book of the Transcendence*
7. *Book of the Cube*

The series attempted nothing less than a reformulation of human knowledge from within the Law of Time. It combined spiritual teaching, mathematics, cosmology, history, telepathy and multidimensional consciousness into a comprehensive system. The Foundation lists the seven volumes among his major works from 2005–2011. José Argüelles biography and bibliography

This was the Blue Spectral Monkey no longer merely escaping the old worldview, but creating an immense alternative universe of meaning.

---

# The Shadow of the Magician

A complete reading should not turn archetypal resonance into unquestioning reverence.

Argüelles’s work has been criticized by Maya scholars and traditional practitioners for blending authentic Mesoamerican elements with modern esoteric sources while sometimes allowing followers to perceive the resulting synthesis as ancient Maya teaching.

Dreamspell incorporates modern constructions, numerology, the I Ching, artistic symbolism and Argüelles’s own visionary interpretations. Its language of Galactic Tones and Solar Seals is not simply a direct reproduction of a traditional Maya calendar.

This is where the Blue Monkey’s relationship with illusion becomes essential.

The Monkey can reveal the artificial nature of a dominant reality—but it can also become enchanted by the reality it creates. A symbolic system may produce genuine insight without every cosmological claim being historically or scientifically verifiable.

Argüelles’s work is strongest when treated as:

* an artistic and spiritual cosmology;
* a system of synchronicity;
* a critique of mechanized civilization;
* a tool for contemplation and relationship;
* and an invitation to experience time creatively.

Problems arise when poetic, intuitive or visionary knowledge is presented as though it carries the same evidentiary status as academic history, Indigenous lineage or empirical science.

Yet the presence of controversy may itself be part of the Spectral function. Argüelles disrupted settled categories. He forced people to ask what distinguishes history from mythology, measurement from meaning, and inherited time from lived time.

Even disagreement with him can open the questions he wanted humanity to confront.

# His Death on Red Spectral Moon

José Argüelles died on March 23, 2011, at age 72. Contemporary reports state that he died in Australia from complications of peritonitis. Los Angeles Times obituary

That date corresponds to Red Spectral Moon · Kin 89.

This is an extraordinary synchronicity: he was born on a Spectral day and departed on another Spectral day.

His life began and ended under Tone 11:

* liberation;
* release;
* dissolution.

His birth signature was Blue Spectral Monkey, releasing illusion through magic. His death signature was Red Spectral Moon, releasing purification through universal water.

The Red Moon is the seal of flow, purification and remembrance. It is associated with becoming a channel through which life moves. On a Spectral Moon day, boundaries dissolve and accumulated energies are released back into the greater current.

His birth and death signatures therefore form a poetic arc:

> The Monkey came to dissolve the illusion of artificial time.
> The Moon released the messenger back into the river of time.

Argüelles did not live to see December 21, 2012, or the galactic synchronization date of July 26, 2013 that had become so central to his later narrative. His physical departure before those dates required the movement to release its dependence upon his individual presence.

Once again, Tone 11 performed its function.

The teacher was released. The code remained.

---

# The Great Synchronicity of José Argüelles

There is something almost mythically appropriate about the fact that the person who gave the modern Dreamspell movement its galactic language was himself a Blue Spectral Monkey.

The creator of an elaborate game of time was born under the archetype of play.

The designer of a modern magical cosmology was born under the seal of magic.

The critic of mechanized civilization was born under the tone of liberation.

The man who sought to expose the spell of artificial time carried the seal of illusion.

The artist who proclaimed “time is art” was supported by Yellow Star and encoded through Venus.

The planetary visionary who sought to initiate a new human cycle was born inside the first wavespell—the Red Dragon Wavespell of Birth.

The messenger who developed an entire transmission around the 13 tones was simultaneously Kin 11 and Life Path 11.

And the Spectral Monkey who entered this world through liberation departed it on a Spectral Moon.

None of this proves the Dreamspell system in a scientific sense. That is not what archetypal resonance does. What it provides is a pattern of correspondence so intimate that biography and galactic signature appear to illuminate one another.

For those of us studying historical figures through Space Station Plaza, this is one of the most compelling examples of the system’s uncanny symbolic accuracy.

José Argüelles did not merely possess a Dreamspell signature.

He lived inside its archetype while giving the rest of the world a language through which to discover their own.

---

# Final Synthesis: The Man Who Tried to Free Time

José Argüelles should be remembered as an artist, scholar, cultural provocateur, calendar reformer, planetary visionary and creator of one of the most influential modern systems inspired by Maya calendrical mathematics.

His work was audacious. Sometimes beautiful, sometimes bewildering, sometimes controversial, it refused to accept that industrial civilization’s interpretation of reality was the only possible one.

His central question remains alive:

What happens to human consciousness when time is treated primarily as money?

And behind it waits another:

What might become possible if time were experienced as art?

Blue Spectral Monkey does not demand that we believe every proposition it presents. It invites us to loosen our certainty long enough to see through the prevailing illusion.

That may be Argüelles’s most enduring gift.

He placed a crack in the clock.

Through that opening came color, number, synchronicity, mythology, planetary imagination and the possibility that every day possesses a living quality of its own.

His legacy is not only a calendar. It is an invitation to reconsider what time is, what humanity is becoming and whether civilization itself might be transformed into a conscious work of art.

José Argüelles came as the Blue Spectral Monkey—the magician who sought to dissolve the spell of mechanical time so that humanity could remember the greater game:

> Time is not money.
> Time is art.
